The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course is a comprehensive state-approved training program designed to equip caregivers and healthcare workers with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to safely administer medications in long-term care and assisted living environments.

This course is ideal for individuals who are already Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and are looking to advance their career, expand their responsibilities, and increase their earning potential by becoming certified to assist with medication delivery under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

• Medication classifications and commonly prescribed drugs
• Medication administration techniques, including oral, topical, ophthalmic, and more
• How to read and follow medication administration records (MARs)
• Proper storage, documentation, and disposal of medications
• Infection control and standard safety precautions

• Responding to emergencies such as adverse drug reactions
• Role-playing proper reporting and documentation methods

Additional Information

Upon successful completion of the course, the instructor and student will complete the CMA hands-on techniques necessary on the medication skills checklist before testing.  After review of the medication skills checklist training, the student will take the online-only medication aide certification exam.   In order to pass, the candidate must score 80% or higher. Candidates have three chances within 90 days to pass.
